H6 Collective’s Live Fashion Storytelling at Berlin Fashion Week
During Berlin Fashion Week, photo studio Chérie in Kreuzberg became a stage for an unfolding story – a glimpse into the craft and collaboration behind fashion imagery. In partnership with The Lissome magazine, the H6 Collective – a group of six emerging designers from across Germany – invited the public into their world with On the Cover of…, an interactive exhibition that explored the layers of creativity behind a magazine cover.
The H6 Collective was formed through the Fashion x Craft Program, an initiative of the Fashion Council Germany with the Kings Foundation and the Swarovski Foundation. United by a commitment to craft and storytelling, the collective works across disciplines, preserving traditional techniques while reimagining fashion as a shared practice.
At On the Cover of…, visitors stepped into the process itself. A showroom presented the designers’ collections, an interactive workshop taught ribbon braiding techniques with regional, sustainable wool sponsored by Elbwolle, and at the heart of the space, a coat on a mannequin transformed throughout the day. Guests contributed handmade elements, altering its form piece by piece, each change documented in a series of evolving photographs.
The energy of the space ebbed and flowed – hands braiding, fabric shifting, cameras clicking. Over 500 visitors passed through, drawn into the act of making. As evening fell, the event culminated in a final performance, photographed by Kaj Lehner. Dancers, stylists, and makeup artists animated the finished coat and collection pieces, capturing fashion as a living, breathing collaboration.
By pulling back the curtain on the editorial process, H6 invited reflection on the unseen labour and artistry behind every image. Fashion, here, was not just an end product but an ongoing dialogue – a shared communal memory in the making. The final images created during the event became the cover of The Lissome magazine, accompanying this article as both a document and a testament to the collective spirit of the project.
