The Knitwit Stable / The Netherlands
With the rise of synthetic fibres and fast fashion, Dutch farmers weren’t able to maintain wool production as a viable industry. As a result, almost the entire Dutch wool industry has disappeared. Founder Reina Ovinge believes that using and producing sustainable Dutch wool is possible.
The Knitwit Stable is an education centre, farm and knitting studio based in Baambrugge. Reina strongly believes that creating insight and transparency is an important step towards a more sustainable production system for fashion – from the animal-friendly keeping of sheep and goats to the processing of their wool into a fair end-product of their own label: The Knitwit Label.
The Knitwit Label sells timeless sweaters, cardigans and accessories of Dutch sheep, goats and alpacas. Next to their label they provide masterclasses and lectures. They also collaborate with like-minded and innovative professionals in the industry.
