The Lissome Presents: Slow Style Chronicle

Wednesday, 3 July 2024, 2–7 pm, SO Berlin / Das Stue, Berlin, Germany

On the sidelines of a fast-paced Berlin Fashion Week SS25, we created a calm oasis and brought to life The Book of Kin, our guidebook of slow makers and designers through a day of hosting an exhibition, a panel discussion and a lino print workshop at the beautiful library salon of the SO Berlin / Das Stue hotel on the edge of Berlin’s lush Tiergarten park.

Our intention was to present a new pathway for fashion: one that is rooted in reciprocity, well-being and a deep love of beauty and craftsmanship. We showed that a slow fashion movement is maturing and stepping into the world, following into the footsteps of slow food and introducing a new appreciation for healthy soil and raw materials, preserving traditional textile crafts under threat from extinction, and understanding that caring and accountable relationships matter.

In her thoughtful review, “Slowly but surely: How craft is changing fashion,” (translated) for Vogue CS, in which she called our gathering “a community of visionaries,” Andrea Gregorova wrote: “These designers don’t just create clothes, they weave stories of cultural heritage, sustainability and artistic expression. Their commitment to slow fashion is a testament to the power of thoughtful, painstaking work in an industry often driven by speed and mass production.” And she ended with a beautiful conclusion: “As we embrace this slow revolution, we are reminded of the deep connection between ourselves and the things we create and wear. This shift in thinking isn’t just changing fashion; it redefines our relationship with the world around us and sows the seeds for a better fashion system and for a better, more connected life.” Thank you, Andrea, we couldn’t have said it any better.
